Customer Testimonials
Sam’s been cutting my hair for 6 years and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Sam and his guys have the best service and are great people. You can’t go wrong here. Reminds me of getting my haircut with my dad and brother as a kid – a very nostalgic feel. Sam is simply the best!

I just moved back from NYC, and i have been looking for a good barber in Chicago. This is hands down the best barbershoop I have been to, NYC included. Sam gets you, period – he is very focused on every detail of the haircut. One of the best thing about this place is that all cut comes standard with a razor finish for your neck and ears area for free – you don’t even have to ask for it!

The place has a true barbershop feel to it, and it is like you are transported back in time. This place is a true gem and they are old school down to the cash register. They offer a bunch of services and while I was getting my haircut I got my shoes shined. I started working in the Loop, and this place is going to be my go to spot because of the hours and location.

I don’t like to tell anyone about “hidden gems” I find in the city because, well, then they wouldn’t be hidden. But I had been looking all over Chicago for a quality, reasonably priced haircut and finally found the last barbership I’ll ever need in the Civic Opera Barber Salon. The barbershop has everything I need to make me feel comfortable. Sam was my barber and did an absolutely fantastic job. For some perspective, I’ve spent $125 for a haircut in the Loop, very recently. It was a great cut, but not some where I could rationalize going for every cut. The cut I got from Sam was the same, if not better quality for much, much less. I am very picky when it comes to haircuts and Sam met all my needs. I’m thrilled that I found a new barber and can’t wait to get a haircut again.

I have been going to great clips since moving to the city. A friend told me about Sam. I went and had the best hair cut I have had since moving to the city today. He takes great pride in his work and gave me by far the best hair cut I have had. I would highly recomend him to anyone looking for a great haircut!

“Bells and whistles be damned, some men just want an old-fashion barber they can trust … For 40 years, Sam Gullo has been filling his chair at the Civic Opera Barber Shop in the Loop.”
Chicago Magazine, September 2011
“Tucked away on the 15th floor of the exquisite Civic Opera building, the only hint of the presence of a shave and shoe shine shop is the only one that matters—a bright red, white and blue barber pole. If that doesn’t convince you, the more than 35 years of sharp trims should.”
Michigan Avenue Magazine, October 23, 2011
“Walk-ins and appointments are accepted, and once you go you may insist on getting haircuts here from now on.”
CBS 2 Chicago, “Best Places for Men’s Haircuts in Chicago”, January 2013
